Pont-Aven, city of painters

Pont-Aven

The town of Pont-Aven is located near the Atlantic coast and is bordered to the east by the Aven River. The small town of Pont-Aven is situated on the banks of this river, at the point where it widens into an estuary.

The river waters weave through a chaos of enormous rocks before reaching the sea.
In the past, the waters of the Aven powered numerous mills in the small town. They are the origin of the saying: Pont-Aven, a town of renown, 14 mills, 15 houses.

The village of Nizon, the former municipal seat, is the second largest settlement. To the north of the town, overlooking the Aven, lies the Bois d’Amour.
